FINAL ACCEPTANCE LETTERS for 12-Week Internship Program Emailed by this Date

Twice a week participants in our internship program explore the concepts of contemplative practice through mindfulness, meditation, group dialogue, journal reflection, mindful cooking classes, visual art, dance, mindful movement, site visits, and more. The program will close with the presentation of a co-created visual or audio project.

In the end, participants will have access to and a personal understanding of mindfulness tools and techniques that they may share with peers, family, and friends.

Participants receive a travel stipend and healthy snacks are provided.

One-Day Teen Retreat

On Saturday, March 3 we will hold a one-day retreat! Open to thirty New York teens and guided by our staff and mentors, we will come together to practice and explore mindfulness as a way to support and nourish the authentic expression, health and self-care of our teens. We'll practice together through meditation, preparing and cooking lunch, games, yoga and movement, small group dialogue, and a Sound Bath* by guest artist and certified Sound Therapy Practitioner, Nate Martinez.

RETREAT DETAILS:

  • For teens ages 14-19
  • Space available for thirty (30) teens from around New York
  • Arrive and check-in between 9:30 - 10am (parent/guardian drop off)
  • Depart and check-out between 7:30 - 8pm (parent/guardian pick up)
  • Pricing: Sustaining Rate $80 / New Student Rate $65 / AYP Student Rate: $40

    Full scholarships available - please apply for one within the retreat application. AYP offers retreats on a sliding scale to allow participants to pay according to individual means. If within your means, please consider giving at our sustaining rate which directly supports inclusive community attendance on this retreat.

Awake Youth Project offers free (no cost) after-school drop-in meditation sessions for teenagers in the Fall and Winter months. Youth explore mindfulness and meditation practices, applied mindfulness activities and group discussions with AYP staff and peer advisors. AYP supports participants in integrating mindfulness into their lives through awareness of body, mind, conditioning, and relationships.

Healthy snacks provided. Feel free to arrive anytime between 4-6p

Peer Leadership Training - Graduation

The Awake Youth Project's (AYP) Peer Leadership Training (PLT) teaches, supports and mentors a small, motivated group of teens and young adults (ages 15 - 21) in a 5-month intensive practice and exploration of mindfulness and meditation tools for everyday living, health and well-being.

PLT provides participants with current skills and knowledge to potentially facilitate guided meditations, small group discussions, games, cooking and other mindfulness techniques. We also support our participants in developing and maintaining such well-being offerings in their schools and communities!  Our at-home assignments are intended to nourish life, not interfere with life.

AYP's dedicated staff and volunteers all live unique lives using mindfulness and meditation tools as teachers, artists, counselors, cooks, movement instructors, community members, and more. Our intention is for PLT graduates to embody a more confident, courageous practice already begun!
