After School 

What happens in Awake Youth after-school programs? 

A weekly after school drop-in program at Brooklyn Zen Center introduces teens to concepts of contemplative practice through meditation, group dialogue, journal reflection, mindful cooking classes, visual art, dance and yoga. The curriculum is facilitated by artists and educators with a foundation in mindfulness practice which diversifies the offerings for our youth each session.

The NAME

What does "Awake Youth" mean? 

The project is named after our intention for young people to gain awareness to the world around them and the world within them.

MEDITATION

What is meditation?

Mindfulness refers to the practice of gaining awareness of the present moment, including the outside world and our own internal thoughts and emotions. Meditation is the practice of sitting or walking silently.

WHO SHOULD MEDITATE?

What is the audience for meditation?

Meditation is available to people of all ages and backgrounds, and requires no religious commitment or renunciation of any spiritual practice. There are many forms of meditation such as sitting, standing, walking, and laying.
